RECO
RES 7 AUG 15
NIPPON YUSEN KAISHA
4 Lloyd's Avenue, E.C.
5th Aug. 1915.
The Secretary,
sir,
Rubber & Tin Exnorte Committee.
We beg to acknowledge receipt of your communication of yesterday's date regarding a consignment of 600 slabs Tin ex.
9.9 "Fushimi Maru" landed at Marseilles whereas Bill of Lading only called for delivery at London or Swansea.
In reply to your request for an explanation we have to say that this was done by our Agent in Marseilles at the request of Mesars. Henry R.Merton & Co. here without our knowledge or consent presumably in ignorance of the fact that there was any official objection to such a procedure.
In normal times such deviations are of com con occur- ence in the ordinary course of business. We have requested an explanation of their action from lesers. Herton and they tell us in reply that they were under the impression licence to do so had been obtained by Mesere Mitsui & Co. from whom they bought the goods. Messrs. Mitsui & Co. inform us however that they did not succeed in obtaining licence to do so.
The circumstance has arisen therefore under a misun- derstanding, for which we beg to express regret.
We are, Sir,
Your obedient Servants,
Nippon Yusen Kaisha,
London Brunch.
